Programme Bioenergy
The fourth Bioenergy Week is held in Budapest from 21 to 24 June. The main theme of the event is to provide biomass, biogas and liquid biofuels to countries in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
The conference is organized by the Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP), an international initiative for the introduction of bioenergy technologies, the secretariat of which works with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome. It is attended by representatives of the GBEP community from 23 countries and 14 international organizations, as well as representatives of the private sector. This time, " Bioenergy Week " is being conducted by the Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture, together with FAO and the Governments of Italy and Brazil, with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIC).
The conference discusses efforts to increase energy production from energy crops and agricultural waste in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, to develop appropriate technologies and markets, and to limit the functioning of bioenergy industries in the countries of those regions.
Increased use of agrarian food industry waste for energy generation can help reduce dependence on fossil fuels in these regions and release resources for renewable energy generation, which will yield not only economic but also environmental benefits.
The conference also planned an important additional event on the EBRD Climate Change Financing and Transfer Programme (sighs) FINTECH♪ FAO and EBRD have developed a step-by-step methodology by which countries can assess the market spread of a number of climate technologies, from solar photovoltaic panels to environmental agriculture, with a further increase in their implementation. In addition, EBRD, together with the International Energy Agency (IEA), is undertaking a number of activities aimed at promoting the diffusion of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies in the markets of the Caspian and Black Sea regions (early economic transition countries), as well as in the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean region.
